Wood Floor Maintenance Guide:

Your wood floors will last a very long time if you follow these simple easy steps.

  1. Keep your floors clean.  Dust and dirt act like sandpaper that can quickly scratch and dull out a floor’s finish.  Dust mop or vacuum with a bare floor attachment on a daily basis to prevent dirt damage.
  2. Do not use oil soaps or any kind of refresher on your floors.  These products leave a residue that dulls out over time and makes a maintenance coat impossible.  We recommend that you clean your floors periodically with Glitsa Clean Hardwood Floor Cleaner and a micro fiber mop.
  3. NO HIGH HEELS, or spike shoes.  A 125 lb woman exerts 2,000 pounds of pressure on a spike heel which will quickly dent any wood floor.
  4. It is recommend to have a maintenance coat put on your floors every 5-10 years.  This maintains the level of finish you have on your floors to prevent walkthrough and thus avoiding having to go through the whole sanding process again.  Do this when the floor starts to show signs of wear.  It is a one day process.
  5. Use felt glides on the bottom of all chairs and furniture legs to help prevent scratching.  These need to be changed out as they wear down.
  6. Use walk off mats at all entry points to capture outside dirt and grit.
  7. Wipe up any spills immediately before they have a chance to seep into the wood and cause a stain.
  8. Remember it is a floor and use it.
